Notch Notes Privacy Policy

Summary

Notch Notes is a local-first macOS app. Your notes, drawings, kanban boards, dictation text, appearance settings, and speech settings are stored on your Mac. If iCloud is available and you are signed in, notes can sync through Apple's private CloudKit database for your Apple ID. TrayApps does not receive your note content, audio recordings, dictation transcripts, drawings, or CloudKit records.

Information Notch Notes Stores

• Notes and note metadata, including title, body text, note type, creation date, and updated date.
• Drawing and kanban content, encoded as part of the note body.
• Device-local preferences such as selected note, theme, paper pattern, font size, speech engine, model choice, microphone choice, and push-to-talk threshold.
• Security-scoped bookmarks for external model folders you explicitly choose.
• Downloaded local speech models, stored in the app's Application Support area or engine cache.

iCloud Sync

When your Mac is signed into iCloud, Notch Notes uses SwiftData with CloudKit to mirror notes to your private iCloud database. This is Apple's sync infrastructure. TrayApps does not operate a server that receives or reads those records. If iCloud is unavailable, Notch Notes falls back to local-only autosave.

Some UI state, such as which note is currently selected, is intentionally kept in UserDefaults on the device and is not synced through CloudKit.

Dictation and Microphone

Notch Notes asks for Microphone access only when you use dictation. Live transcription uses Apple's on-device speech stack, and higher-accuracy transcription can use local Parakeet or WhisperKit models on your Mac. Audio recordings are temporary working files used for transcription and are removed after processing. Notch Notes does not upload audio to TrayApps.

Network Use

Notch Notes may use the network for these purposes:

• iCloud / CloudKit note sync, handled by Apple when you are signed into iCloud.
• Downloading local speech models when you choose an engine that needs a model.
• App Store purchase and restore flows for Notch Notes Pro, handled by Apple StoreKit.

Notch Notes does not include third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or product telemetry.

Exports, Sharing, and Support

Markdown exports and share images are created locally and written only to locations you choose. If you email TrayApps for support, we receive the information you choose to include in that email. Do not include private note content unless you want us to review it for troubleshooting.

Data Deletion

Notch Notes includes a factory reset option that deletes notes and restores default appearance and speech preferences. If iCloud sync is enabled, deleting notes can also remove synced copies from CloudKit for the same Apple ID. You can also manage iCloud data through Apple's iCloud settings.
